We now present to you our overall winners for the Best of E3 2008. All editors that attended IGN were allowed to vote, and because our teams are split into platform teams, we also compiled system-specific lists in addition to our overall awards - that kind of breakup also means that you may see some differences between the winners of our "Overall" categories, and our platform-specific ones (as the opinion of the overall staff could vary greatly from the opinion of a single team). Because these games are works in progress and not yet complete, winners are chosen based on the quality of the software at this stage, as well as its ultimate potential heading towards its future release. In other words, the game had to be manipulated in real-time and, additionally, could not yet be available for consumer purchase. With the exception of Best Non-Playable Presentation and Special Achievement in Innovative Design, all "Best of E3" nominees had to be playable on the show floor or at one of its related events. The criteria we use to pick our E3 favorites are simple. That way everyone, no matter what their console preference, knows what cool games struck our fancy most. As an added bonus, we've even included specialized platform-specific lists for the PC, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii, DS and Xbox 360 crowd as a supplement our overall awards. Naturally, given our own obsession with videogaming, we've put together a list of the best games that the invite-only show had to offer so that you, the IGN faithful, know exactly what cool games to look for in the coming months and years ahead. In truth, the sheer volume of high-caliber software surprised us given the more underwhelming presentation of the show when compared to previous seasons, but perhaps it was that lack of whizz-bang hoopla that made the companies' impressive game lineups that much sweeter. After a one-time stint in Santa Monica, the 14th annual Electronic Entertainment Expo returned to the Los Angeles Convention Center this year, and so too did its lineup of great-looking games.
